Tony Woods headlines September 12th at The DC Improv

Tony Woods is a one-of-a-kind comedic legend that is always in control of his audience. His playful and cool demeanor, mixed with his sharp and sometimes-mischievous routines, create a show that is entertaining at every level.

A seasoned veteran in the comedy business, Tony is recognized not only by fans, but also by his peers, as one of the best and most engaging comedians to get behind a microphone. His endless list of credits includes a Comedy Central 1/2 hour special, HBO's Def Comedy Jam, P. Diddy's Bad Boys of Comedy, Showtime at the Apollo, BET's Comic View, and the USO Tour.

Derek Gaines headlines October 3rd at The DC Improv


Derek Gaines was born in California, but found his comedy chops while growing up in Philadelphia. He currently calls New York City his home where he regularly performs and brings a unique perspective to growing up African American in the suburbs.

Derek’s first break came when he reached the semi-finals of Bill Bellamy’s Who’s Got Jokes in 2010. Also in 2010 Derek was a finalist in Philadelphia’s Phunniest Person Competition. Derek made his standup comedy television debut in 2014 when he appeared on AXS TV’s Gotham Comedy Live and was selected by the Just For Laughs Festival as part of their New Faces showcase. Derek has been a contributor to VH1’s Morning Buzz and TRU TV’s Greatest Ever. He starred in Morgan Spurlock’s docuseries “Connected”. Derek is also a cast member of MTV’s Joking Off and the co-host of MTV’s Broke A$$ Game Show.

Derek plays the role of Jaybird in the hit Tracy Morgan’s series THE LAST O.G. for TBS. He was one of the lead roles in the NBC comedy pilot RELATIVELY HAPPY opposite Jane Lynch after coming off a very successful dramatic appearance on ABC’s TRAINING DAY. Derek recently had a break out role on the season’s NBC hit Will & Grace.

Cipha Sounds

Cipha Sounds headlining The DC Improv December 4th

Throughout Cipha Sounds’ many career turns, two elements have remained at the fore: comedy and hip-hop, his two biggest passions. On the radio, as a VJ for MTV, and as a Live DJ, he has always maintained a sharp sense of humor on the mic. He combined both fields as the official DJ for Comedy Central’s Chapelle’s Show, and has continued to work with Dave Chappelle ever since, joining him on tours as a DJ and opening comedian. He is a regular DJ at Saturday Night Live after parties, and appeared in Michael Che’s Netflix Special. He is now Che’s go-to DJ and opening act on the road. Cipha provides an essential link between music and comedy in New York and beyond. He performs standup comedy at clubs around the city, including the legendary Comedy Cellar, ands hosts “Take it Personal – The Hip Hop Improv Show," at UCB every Friday night. “Take it Personal," has featured many celebrity guests, including Questlove, DJ Premier, The Wu-Tang Clan, Zoe Kravitz, Donald Glover, and 2Chainz. It is a featured TV show on Jay Z’s streaming service TIDAL.
